Question Losing Self in GW

Hey, have you guys felt that sometimes (okay... well maybe more/less than sometimes) that the game IS your life?

How important is Guild Wars to you?

For some reason I predict that this thread will be closed, if only because I say so.

And uh..
yeah. Considering I am pretty much sick of Gw at this point, I'd say its very much like normal life to me atm.

Guild wars is great on my bank account Do you understand how much car parts are??lol This game is great and i love to play it, it also saves me money. I used to buy loads of stuff dealing with my car, not counting blowing them up GW is something else to do and cheaper. I have never played a online game before but now i cant stop playing it for some reason. Some people have other hobbies and thats great for them. I have done all the other not so good things in life and choose not to do them anymore. I love how people say "get a life", who the hell are they to tell anybody what to do.

My partner does contract work around the globe, and lately quite a bit in areas around the Middle East. GW is an excellent vacation from worry, and then when Eric's home for however many weeks, I have an excellent vacation from GW.

Can't say i've ever lost myself in GW before. My PC setup is not very special and my life is quite situational so im always aware that im just playing a game. My point is its not easy to get immersed in a game when your graphics card is messing up and you get a yonger brother constantly pestering you!

I don't think I can get to that point with a game. I have good friends who'll smack me down to reality

OK, it really isn't healthy, I know this from experience. I have such a bad video game addiction, I'd go to meetings if they had them. Back when I was in high school, Diablo was the current drug of choice. I played that game hardcore for 6 months straight. When Diablo 2 came out, I was in college, and eventually dropped out because I was lagging so far behind to play it. Not kidding here, I dropped out of college to play a video game!

Not proud of that, and pretty much vowed that from then on, I wouldn't get that engrossed in a game ever again. It's just unhealthy. It can really ruin your life, and it's so easy to do. I'm still addicted, and my current addiction is GW, but I limit myself. I get out of the house as often as I can, I go to work, I have control of my life.

Don't let Guild Wars control your life.

I've had my 'addiction' phase with MMOG's. My first MMOG I played for 6-8 hours every single night. Yes, every single night for 2 years (the addiction there was probably worse than a lot of other stories... I have an 'addictive' personality can't help it ). I remember vaguely thinking to myself during that time that I was just wasting my life. Played it for another year slowly scaling back and then just quit. Since then I have never truly played that much.

Okay, admittedly with the release of factions I've been playing pretty hardcore but it loses it's luster faster for me. Not because I don't like the game, or I think it has problems... but because I snap back faster and stop.

I've heard some pretty sad stories of internet addiction, just saw one on Yahoo where a 13 year old played for 36 hours straight on Warcraft III then jumped off a building stating he wanted to be exalted with his characters. Of course the parents are suing (let's not get into the discussion of WHY they were letting their kid play the game for 36 hours straight). But Internet Addiction is something very real and it only seems that asian countries have begone to acknowledge and are starting to address it.

Maybe that was a little bit too in depth for what the OP wanted but yes... it's always important to take a step back from any hobby/addiction/game.

Pre-ordered factions and got 2 characters through the campaign in a week or so. Kind of bored of it now. Was hoping there'd be more to do, but to be honest I often find the challenge mission cities in deep luxon/kurzick territory to be ghost towns.

great game, it has gotten in the way of school, but im barely squeezing by with A's... an A is an A so im still happy... and summer is coming up which is a plus... but yes, i will say that while loving this game can be problematics, i have been saving money... and that actually is freakin awesome!

I delayed my graduation to create enough time to play Factions.

Guild Wars - No, gaming in general is my life. Considering I have no life (no job, no vehicle). When I'm not gaming, I'm either in school or something else that I'm forced to do.. Or the occasionally rare hang out with friends and do stuff.
Although, GWF is a little bit of a disappointment, it isn't as boring as Prophecies, yet..
